Lower pierce reservoir catch report 2 Yabby Hunting

Lower pierce is one of the recommended spots for peacock bass fishing. i have personally been there a few times just to take a walk but only recently did I go with others to fish there! this isnt an updated catch report but it is still recent in the year 2013! SO this is the first time I've seen as peacock bass caught by a friend! it's just a young one but still a good specimen to observe. often lures are used for catching these fishes.I've seen many use live cheap goldfish to catch peacock bass and the Speckled Pavon(similar but grey in colour). though i do not encourage the use of such cruel methods. this particular one was caught using bread!Impressive!

so what else is there to do at lower pierce?I did observe children playing amongst the rocky area within the legal fishing spot and was quite curious to know what they were catching.
As I went in for a closer look,I observed a tank with something moving from a distance. To my surprise, they were crawfish!many regard them as small lobsters but lets just call them what they really are, crawfish. they are called " blue clawed yabby" and they lurk just beneath the rocks.they are lured with bread on a piece of string caught using a small handheld net!
so we decided to try our luck on this one and went ahead with flipping rocks!it was our first experience so dont laugh at us but we only caught 3 after an hour of searching whereas the children had already caught about a dozen of them.
of course in a year, many things can change and one of them is the decline of these crustaceans.
now if you go back, it's difficult to spot them under the rocks!many catch them as pets for their aquariums so numbers have dropped.

not to say that they have been "over fished" but as for now,I've stopped going back to attempt to catch them for recreational purposes.

cheers and peace out!
