Pasir Ris Sungei Api Api Bridge catch report 3 - quiet night

So it was just another quiet night with us talking random nonsense as usual and having a great and relaxing time.
we brought dead fresh prawns as bait.
we had already planned to fish for only 2 hours so the catch rate was low for the night.
first catches of the night were pufferfish as usual with their hard pulls that sounded the bells.
so what's the deal with them?

Pufferfish are well known to cause environmental damages by firstly, eating most of the natural vegetation in the water and sometimes harassing other fish by nibbling on the tails and fins. they have no natural predators or at least there are no predators ignorant enough to consume them and risk getting poisoned.therefore their numbers grow and the fact that they reproduce fast is not comforting either. Many anglers tend to kill them and some countries such as Australia have made it illegal to release them.

another strong bite that sounded the bells.thinking that it might be more puffers,we slowly reeled it in only to discover that it was a striped perch.First we've seen so close to shore but nothing's impossible I suppose! This fish ,as enticingly beautiful as it is, is actually a very common sight to kayak anglers who venture out into deeper waters at the blue barrel barrier. they are feisty little fellas so do watch out for the spikes fanning out as well as the sharp gill plates.

of course what would Pasir Ris be without catfish? the weather played a small part as well.It had rained in the evening therefore lowering the temperature of the water. We had a few catfish hook ups but all were quite small but still a good sign that the catfish are spawning well.

so all we had for the night was eeltail catfishes unfortunately.

  1. Kim-less night. But good fun nonetheless! :)

  2. The tide was moving out and the water was cloudy so all these factors lead to a lower catch rate
